Dry Run, Training Update
I’ve been trying to simplify my bike commute lately.  I’m no longer riding with my heart rate monitor and bike computer on my way to and from work, so I’m no longer getting times for those rides.  It seems like I’ve been doing that commute in a pretty consistent 18 minutes anyway, and at about five miles each way it’s such a short distance I hardly consider it...

Morning Ride/Run
The bike was loaded down with towels, the office’s bath mat and clothes for the week, but still made an OK average speed of 15.3 mph. Went on my run this morning, today 25 minutes.  It was a bit warm, but I didn’t have any major pain, so I kept my lap times up fairly well.  One thing I am starting to realize is that music makes a huge difference for me.  I have heard runners talk...

Well, Made Up For It
Rough week.  Lots of days off, didn’t ride in to work two days this week.  I got my runs in, but only swam once. So I decided to ride fifty miles today.  I’m thinking about doing this Miami to Key West ride in January.  That ride is done as a 100 mile ride on day 1, then a 60 mile ride to Key West. That’s not what I’m training for just yet, but I wanted to get an idea of...

Capping Out An Off Week
Rode in this morning with an average speed of 16.7mph.  Not terrible, but it still didn’t feel great. We didn’t do our grocery shopping over the weekend, so been making a lot of poor food choices this week.  Add in a night with no sleep and running in the middle of the day, and this just wasn’t my best week.

Motivation
Running at noon in South Florida is mighty fine motivation to wake up early enough to get your run in before work.

And Nothing Today, Either?
We were down in Miami last night to see Pet Shop Boys.  (Awesome show, by the way.)  We got home close to 11:30, and a pretty bad thunderstorm blew through a couple hours later.  So from about 1:30 to 3:00, Harry was barking his fool head off.  As a result, I overslept, and now I’m running late for work. I’m going to throw some workout clothes in my car and try to get my run in at...

Day Off
Days off are starting to bug me, and I’ve had more than I’m comfortable with in the last few weeks.  We’re going to see the Pet Shop Boys tonight, so I have to leave work early and couldn’t ride my bike in.  I had hoped to ride my bike in this morning, but I left my alarm clock off last night and missed it.  Oh well. Tomorrow will be long ride/morning run.  I took a look...

Longest Run Yet
Today was the end of week six of the Couch To 5K program, a straight up twenty-five minute run.  I ran at work after riding in (on the old bike, unfortunately) and covered about two and a quarter miles on the run. Nothing big to say about it.  I was listening to Sasha & Digweed’s Northern Exposure, and we just got to the good part when I hit the end of the run.  I almost kept going, but...

The Big One
There are a lot of things you can spend your money on in triathlon, and though I try to limit my spending, I’m pretty much an abject failure in that respect.  I’ve bought a swimming lap timer, a pair of triathlon specific shorts, nice running shoes, awesome elastic shoelaces (Seriously, these are cool.  I’m going to buy them for all my dress shoes soon, too), and I received an...

Morning Run
Sore knees, sore left heel, but more or less cleared up a few minutes into the run.  I still felt stiff, and I think I need to go back to running after biking in to work this week.  Today was week six, day two of Couch To 5K, a five minute warm-up, ten minute run, three minute walk, ten minute run, and five minute cool-down.  Today’s playlist was poorly conceived: Andrew Bird - Dark Matter ...

Morning Run
Shins and my left foot hurt a bit early, but it worked itself out.  Today’s run was day one of week six of the couch to 5K program.  It started with a five minute warmup, then five minute run, three minute walk, eight minute run, three minute walk, five minute run, and a five minute cooldown.  I threw together this playlist: Röyksopp - What Else Is There? John Dahlbäck - I Had A Feeling ...

Did Not Think I Would Enjoy Running
maniacalrage: Over time I’m developing the most ridiculous relationship with running. I get excited to go on a run and then two minutes into it I dread that I have to keep going. Then, toward the end, I feel empowered to keep going a little more. When I’m done, I feel tired but thrilled it’s over and I accomplished it. Then I stretch and start to relax and immediately want to run again. What’s...

Struggling For Pace
My legs have been sore since the triathlon volunteering on Sunday.  Today is the first day I haven’t really felt like I was limping around all the time.  I’m sure tuesday’s long ride and the runs on Monday and Wednesday didn’t help.  I probably should have taken a day off. My legs didn’t really hurt today until I started pedaling hard, then my right hamstring started...

Gear Update
Also, I double checked the calibration of my bike computer, and the wheel circumfrence I had entered was off by about 12 cm.  I think that works out to about 7%, so all my speeds and distances have been 7% low for the couple months I’ve had this computer.  I was hoping it was off more than that, but we’ll see what distance it clocks for my commute this morning.  Speaking of which,...

Surprise!
So I went for my run this morning, day three of week 5 on the couch to 5k plan.  Every other week so far has been the same intervals each day of each week.  I assumed the same, so I used my same playlist from Monday’s run and headed out.  After walking around the corner, I hit the end of my five minute warmup walk and started what I thought was my first five minute run.  I knew about where...

Not The Best Ride
I did my long ride in to work this morning.  I struggled with my bike computer, which kept cutting out completely or saying I was going 55 mph.  Also, I’ve ridden this ride several times and the computer usually clocks it at 11.2 miles.  Today I checked it at the link above and on another online mapping application, and they both agree that it’s closer to 13.7.  Which makes me feel...
