Weekend Update

No proper workouts this weekend, but the weekend was full, and there was physical activity, so I’m not feeling too bad about it.  Bex and I went kayaking on the intracoastal Saturday morning.  I think kayaking is a game for the thin.  The rental place didn’t have a single man kayak that I fit in comfortably, so I ended up piloting a tandem by myself.  As a result, the weight was pretty far to the back of the boat, and it was kind of difficult to paddle.  I never really got comfortable, and as a result, didn’t really enjoy the experience.  Still, it was decent exercise.  Then it was TV (F1 Qualifying!  Go Force India!) and early to bed.

Early to bed because I was volunteering for the Ameriprize Time Trial Triathlon.  It was at the site of my first sprint triathlon, so I thought volunteering would be a good way to get an idea of what I’m in for and see the course.  As it turns out, not so much.  I got put to work early marking numbers on the racers’ shoulders and legs, and that went right up to the race start.  Then I moved to the finish to help set up for arriving racers, then it was taking chips off racers and tearing down for three more hours.  Turns out I was so busy I never even really got to see the swim/bike transition area, which is what I really wanted to scope out.  I don’t think I really learned much, other than “show up early, there is a lot to do before the race.”  Still, a lot of physical activity (moving equipment, etc.) so I don’t feel too bad about missing the run I was supposed to do today.

After watching the F1 race (Fisi couldn’t pull out the win, but at least Force India is on the board), Bex and I decided to run to the beach.  While there, I decided to get a bit of a swim in.  I swam two lifeguard stations up the beach and back.  The lifeguard says they’re about 150 to 200 yards apart, so I swam at least the length of the sprint tri (400 yds), and probably pretty close to the international distance (.5 miles).  I didn’t get a time, though.

Tomorrow I need to catch up on my running in the morning, then I’m going to drive into work so I can leave early and meet the Boca Triathletes for their weekly open water swim.  That should be good.  Then I’ll be riding my bike in to work the rest of the week, with runs on Wednesday and Friday.  Should probably get more swimming in, too.  I’m going to say Tuesday and Thursday.

Notes, show trivial?
