Not The Best Ride

I did my long ride in to work this morning.  I struggled with my bike computer, which kept cutting out completely or saying I was going 55 mph.  Also, I’ve ridden this ride several times and the computer usually clocks it at 11.2 miles.  Today I checked it at the link above and on another online mapping application, and they both agree that it’s closer to 13.7.  Which makes me feel better about my best time of 47 minutes riding that route.  If that’s a 13.7 mile ride, that works out to an average speed of 17.48 mph.  If it’s only 11.2, it’s 14.2 mph, which just isn’t going to cut it for a good time at the triathlon.

Clearly my bike computer needs to be checked out.  Maybe I just have the wheel size calibrated wrong, or just need to move the computer to the other side of the handebars so it gets a better signal from the wheel sensor.  Whatever it is, something seems to be wrong there, and in a good way.  I really had been feeling like I was killing myself out on rides to and from work, only to get home and see that I was averaging speeds around 14mph. If it’s consistently underestimating my distance, I may be making better progress than I thought I was.

Also, decided to ride to music this morning instead of podcasts.  I preferred that, but I apparently had shake to shuffle on, so every time I hit a bump it would change songs.  I had to add in one extra stop to fix that.

I’m not going to lie, I enjoy all the gadgetry that goes along with this, but sometimes it does get in the way.
